Warning Signs


Birth to 3 months
  • Does not startle to loud noises

  • Poor suck

4 to 6 months
  • Shows no interest in familiar faces

6 months to 1 year
  • Recurrent ear infections

  • Does not try to say, “ba ba”, “na na”

12 to 18 months
  • Does not shake head “yes” or “no”

  • Does not “dance” to music

18 to 24 months
  • Uses more gestures than words

  • Does not say some 2 word sentences

2 to 3 years
  • Does not combine 2-3 word sentences

  • Is frustrated when trying to talk

3 to 4 years
  • Does not tell first and last name

  • Does not ask “what”, “where”, “why”?

  • Does not follow 2 related directions:                                               “Close the book and give to me”

4 to 5 years
  • Does not use complete sentences

  • Does not follow directions

  • Stutters in finding words
